My dad is a great cook and always loves to cook especially every Sunday and holidays. I remember my siblings and I (we are 6 siblings) were trying to "escape" dad while he was in the kitchen just to avoid being asked to clean up or help him out! It was my kuya Tim who was always cornered by my dad to assist him in cooking and because of that he is now a better cook than our dad. And guess what? I was the "lucky" one who always managed to escape from my dad and never learned how to cook!
Since migrating here in UK in 2001 and with tiny bit of knowledge in cooking, I struggled a lot at first on how to prepare a meal for my own family (without my dad & kuya Tim). I used to ring my dad overseas just to ask "how do you cook this & that", emailed my kuya Tim so he can email me recipes. Through perseverance and "sariling sikap" (no choice eh) I learned to cook and now baking! My siblings can't believe that I can actually cook now. And I think that I can cook more dishes now than my dad and kuya Tim!! Hurray to that!!
I am sharing recipes to those who are struggling to cook like me before so you can enjoy home cooked meals for your families.
You are welcome to share your recipes too. Any comments and suggestions are welcome!
Cooking and eating are very well part of our family. We have a motto "Basta Kainan, Walang Iwanan". The Gabrianas enjoy cooking and eating from my Lola Fanny's recipes that were passed through generations. Four generations of great cooks, from my lola to my dad to my elder brother Tim and (surprisingly) myself and now to my nephew Boogie. We are always invited to parties and our relatives and friends would always request for us to cook for them. Specially during Christmas party season, my dad's office mates always request for him to bring dishes. Truly our recipes were tried and tested over the years.
