Sweet and Spicy Squid

Ingredients

  • 1 kg. Squid
  •  
  • 1 pc Onion chopped
  •  
  • 4 - 5 cloves Garlic minced
  •  
  • 3 tbsp. Cooking Oil
  •  
  • 1 pc. Siling Labuyo or Chili Flakes
  •  
  • Pepper to taste
  •  
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce
  •  
  • 1/4 cup Tomato Ketchup
  •  
  • 2 tbsp. Brown Sugar or Honey
  •  

Instructions

  • Clean the squid. Remove back bone and eye. After washing, drain squid in a colander for about 15 minutes. Slice each squid into three to four pieces to produce squid rings. Do not remove the black ink.
  • Pre-heat oil in a pan . Sauté onion till soft. Add in the garlic and pepper. Sauté for about two minutes while constantly tossing.
  • Add in the sugar and the soy sauce and stir mixture for 2 minutes. Add in squid and let cook for about 5 minutes, until the squid is tender. Stir occasionally.
  • Once the squid is tender, add ketchup and siling labuyo/chilli flakes. Mix it well until the ketchup is evenly distributed. Turn off heat and serve hot. Best serve with rice. Enjoy!
